The ultimate traditional wedding favour sweet – the sugared almond!

I love the variety of sweet treats that are given as favours in modern weddings, but we all know the traditional wedding favour option was the sugared almond. The bitterness of the almond and the sweetness of the sugar symbolised the bitterness of life and the sweetness of love – that’s pretty darn cute right? But the good old sugared almond has fallen out of fashion lately and is now seen as terribly grandma-ish.  But I have a confession to make – I love them! I love their chic pastel colours, the way they look when piled into a vintage crystal comport and when packaged into little clear bags. And I think the little sugared almond is making a big comeback.

Sugared almonds, or jordan almonds, are really versatile as a wedding favour and you can put a modern (or vintage-inspired!) spin on the packaging you use for them. Or include them on your sweets table alongside macarons, mini cupcakes and chocolates. They come in pastel shades as well as brighter shades, and also in metallics – tres chic!

{sweets for my sweets} chic white sweets table for Natalie’s kitchen tea

I had the pleasure of styling a sweets table for the lovely Natalie for her kitchen tea on the weekend and I’m really excited to share some photos of the event with you. Natalie was after a chic all-white table for her kitchen tea, with lots of sweet little details to delight her guests. The table featured some yummy treats like mini vanilla cupcakes, lychee jelly beans, milk bottles, white chocolate raspberry bullets, vanilla bean macarons and white chocolate haystacks, as well as some sweet handcrafted details like ‘i do’ cupcake toppers, personalised lolly bags and ‘C & N’ fabric-wrapped initials (for Chris & Natalie!). The Brisbane River provided the most beautiful backdrop to the event. I loved working on this table and I’m so glad that Natalie really loved it as well!

All the best for your wedding in a couple of weeks Natalie & Chris!

Winter goodness – hot chocolate on a spoon

I absolutely adore Winter, it’s one of my favourite times of the year. Rugging up in knitted scarves, big coats and cute boots is always a novelty for us here in Brisbane! I love a good Winter wedding too – when it’s chilly outside but the celebration inside is warm, festive and leaves everyone with rosy cheeks.

So what favour does one give to their guests at a Winter wedding? Hot chocolate and marshmallows of course! One of our lovely favours from the ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ range are these sweet little individual hot chocolates on a wooden spoon (pictured below right). All your guests need to do to enjoy a silky hot chocolate at the end of the night is slip the spoon into a mug of hot milk and stir while the chocolate melts! Milk chocolate, white chocolate and strawberry chocolate flavours are available. The spoons also include a little bag of mini marshmallows and a thank you tag, which can be personalised with the bride and groom’s initials. Cute huh?! These little beauties will be available in our Etsy shop in a couple of days time (we’ll be sure to add the link onto here for you!)

Hello friends! I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be here writing the very first blog post for My Darling Heart! I’ve always been someone who thinks that giving truly beautiful & thoughtful presents to the people that you love is very important, and the ultimate occasion to thank the ones you love for a lifetime of support, encouragement and for making you who you are is your wedding day. When couples are planning their day it doesn’t take long to find out that there are quite limited options for truly gorgeous wedding favours available in Australia! With this in mind My Darling Heart was born – our emphasis is on creating original designs and is also, above all, on handmade. We are dedicated to creating beautifully bespoke wedding favours for couples who believe that thanking their guests in style is one of the most important parts of the day. You won’t find any mass-produced items here – our favours are made to order so that you can be sure that each has been individually crafted to perfection for your guests.
