The ultimate traditional wedding favour sweet – the sugared almond!

I love the variety of sweet treats that are given as favours in modern weddings, but we all know the traditional wedding favour option was the sugared almond. The bitterness of the almond and the sweetness of the sugar symbolised the bitterness of life and the sweetness of love – that’s pretty darn cute right? But the good old sugared almond has fallen out of fashion lately and is now seen as terribly grandma-ish.  But I have a confession to make – I love them! I love their chic pastel colours, the way they look when piled into a vintage crystal comport and when packaged into little clear bags. And I think the little sugared almond is making a big comeback.

Sugared almonds, or jordan almonds, are really versatile as a wedding favour and you can put a modern (or vintage-inspired!) spin on the packaging you use for them. Or include them on your sweets table alongside macarons, mini cupcakes and chocolates. They come in pastel shades as well as brighter shades, and also in metallics – tres chic!

{sweets for my sweets} chic white sweets table for Natalie’s kitchen tea

I had the pleasure of styling a sweets table for the lovely Natalie for her kitchen tea on the weekend and I’m really excited to share some photos of the event with you. Natalie was after a chic all-white table for her kitchen tea, with lots of sweet little details to delight her guests. The table featured some yummy treats like mini vanilla cupcakes, lychee jelly beans, milk bottles, white chocolate raspberry bullets, vanilla bean macarons and white chocolate haystacks, as well as some sweet handcrafted details like ‘i do’ cupcake toppers, personalised lolly bags and ‘C & N’ fabric-wrapped initials (for Chris & Natalie!). The Brisbane River provided the most beautiful backdrop to the event. I loved working on this table and I’m so glad that Natalie really loved it as well!

All the best for your wedding in a couple of weeks Natalie & Chris!

Guest post ~ Casey from Rustique Wedding Designs

Good morning darlings! Today I’m very excited to share with you a guest post from Casey of Rustique Wedding Designs. Casey and I met at the recent Vintage and Handmade Bridal Showcase and I’m thrilled that the first guest post is by someone who shares my love of rustic chic weddings. Hope you all enjoy her words as much as I have, Katy x x

Hi My Darling Heart Fans! I’m thrilled to be guest blogging for Katy this week and am a massive fan of her work myself. A little about me, my names Casey and I’m from over at Rustique Wedding Designs. I created my blog to share beautiful rustic inspiration and my goal is to style and plan Rustique Chic designed weddings.

Today I’m going to share some inspiration for creating a charming barn wedding and how to create that barn look without the barn:

Barns create an instant atmosphere to a wedding and adding hanging lights and draping turn it into something magical, intimate and inviting. But what if you there is no barn in sight and you still want to include some elements on your big day, here are some ideas:

By bringing some of the same elements across- old doors, hay bales and wine barrels you can still have a charming atmosphere without the barn and your guests will love all the details. If you love the amazing dress featured it is from Gowns of Elegance and the favours are of course made by My Darling Heart.

For any of the links to the above photos please check out the Rustique Wedding Designs Pinterest Page here.

Thanks a lot for having me, Casey x
